10 ideas for team fun during the holidays

 In Employee Engagement

Celebrating the holidays as a team in the office or remotely is always fun and exciting. However, planning how you will spend the day and coming up with unique ideas and games to make the holiday season so memorable for your employees can seem difficult and sometimes even complicated to organize.

To help you out, we’ve come up with several ideas for activities that will bring you lots of fun and joy. Let’s go!

Ugliest Holiday Sweater Contest

One of the most fun ideas during the holidays is the famous ugly sweater contest. Employees can either buy a ready-made one or choose a simpler one and dress it up. Hold a parade or an online call for everyone to submit their ugliest sweater and give a prize to the winners!

Wellness Session

The vacation season is coming up, and so is a well-deserved break after a year of hard work. To reduce the feeling of stress, there’s nothing better than planning some wellness time. A meditation session to start the day or a good yoga session at dinner time can only be good for soothing and serene moments.

The photo station

Creating a DIY photo station for the holidays is inexpensive and brings a lot of joy at the same time. Gather props such as Santa hats, jingle bells, tinsel, baubles or other holiday items and place them around the booth. Everyone who comes in for a photo can use these props and get a wonderful office party photo with colleagues. And for extra magic, add some fake snow to the floor!

Cooking Contest

We love discovering the hidden talents of employees! And some of them are real cooks. Why not organize a cooking contest, with a specific theme or at the free choice of the participant. Why not impose a special ingredient on them and let their imagination run wild! In person, it will be a delicious potluck to share as a team. From a distance, it will be a beautiful photo mosaic of equally delicious dishes, with the added bonus of revealing cooking talents!

Sleepover day

We like to be in the comfort of our pajamas to discover the Christmas gifts! So why not organize a pajama day during a work day? You can ask employees at a distance or in the office to wear their most comfortable, fun or simply the one they feel most comfortable in, for a comfortable and relaxing day. The magic touch: Serve them hot coffee and chocolate cookies to make the atmosphere warmer, or for remote employees, have coffee and cookies delivered to the comfort of their home!

Christmas Tree Decorating Contest

The Christmas tree decorating contest may not seem very original, but it’s fun to try with your co-workers at home or at an office party. Bring in different small Christmas trees and divide into teams. Give each team a tree and ask them to create a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in 20 to 30 minutes. Then let each team explain their project and pick the winner of the most original decoration. This can be a great team-building activity.

The Holiday Movie Show

What would the holidays be without the movies that always end with magic? It is possible to organize a Christmas movie screening at the office or remotely. There are the great classics to see or re-watch, or new ones to discover as a team (during your Pyjama day, why not!) These movies help create a fun moment and bring a touch of happiness in a work day.

Board games

Whether it’s online or in person, there’s no substitute for playing games with a partner or group. Board games are always popular for bringing people together, creating discussions and laughter, and beyond the result, everyone wins by having a great time. You will discover new facets in the personality of your employees!

Volunteer as a team

It’s always a good time to give back, but the holiday season can be a great time to do it as a team. Ask your employees if they would be willing to volunteer and what activity would interest them the most. Whether it’s collecting donations and taking them to an organization together, volunteering your time for a cause you care about, or simply feeling like you’re bringing a smile to someone else, volunteering as a team will bring a sense of calm and happiness to your employees.

Christmas Cards

The holiday season is the perfect time to thank your employees and offer them recognition for their outstanding contributions throughout the year. Offer them blank cards online or physically, and let their imaginations run wild as they offer words of appreciation to each other. Give them time to write personalized messages for others, and then give them to the individual. Despite the technological advances we live in, a good old-fashioned holiday card still works!

Creating little moments of happiness during the holidays is not complicated if you have the right ideas for your employees. These little moments of happiness can make your employees feel motivated, relaxed and more engaged at work. So don’t wait, pick your favorite activity idea from the list and let the holiday magic happen!
